Is this book any good? I felt disgusted.
There's this friend of mine who suggested me this book last week. She was nearly swooning over the writing and the plot. So I thought to give it a try. Started the audio book yesterday and I could barely listen for more than an hour. The issues I faced:
- Too many protagonists and all sound the same
- None of them will hook you to the story, rather seemed shallow.
- AND MY BIGGEST ISSUE: The imagery of the females in the book. I get it, the major characters in the book are teenage boys. But the language they use to describe a girl they are crushing on (according to them) is so disgusting, it makes me wanna throw up. Each girl is described to fit a "ফর্সা সুন্দরী শিক্ষিতা" image. Like at one point it feels like they are just shallow objects made of lips and busts. The boys are madly in "love" from afar just because they are all versions Aishwarya Rai and haven't even spoken to them. I really heard sentences like "ekta bhison forsha pith", "or tthot duto chhire ante ichhe kore".
Is this literature? Also, as I didn't finish it, does the book get any better? Does the author have better books as he's widely celebrated?
