Water Stock Market Again

Water Stock Market Again

Recently, user u/Showtaim made an automated display showing weather and water levels in the colony.

This inspired me to try the same idea with a different implementation.

The bottom right weather stations are for drought, temperate, and badtide. The top right blue lights are pass-through relays connected to the above reservoir.

The rest are just Time Automations set to Delay 1Day/1Day and triggered by the structure on their right.

Understanding Delay settings was a little tough for me, but after this project I can use them much better.

When they take a signal, they wait 1 day (T1) before lighting up. They remain lit if the signal continues.

Once the signal stops, they remain lit for 1 day (T2) before turning off.

In this way, the signal propagates leftward as time passes. The present day is always on the far right.

The last 30 days of weather (mostly drought) is visible on the bottom. Only a few days of water level are visible because I only made this a few days ago.

It isn't as impressive as the original, but it does prove the concept nicely.

I left my 5-year-old playing by himself for a while, and when he called me over because "they aren't building anymore," I noticed that his population had collapsed.

He had built a lot of housing but hadn't expanded food production. I tried to get things back on track, but the population kept decreasing, and new beavers weren't being born.

A bit of investigation found that he had built a bunch of single occupancy apartments, so none of the 4 remaining residents had roommates.

I turned off the little apartments until beavers started shacking up again, and the population started to recover.

I thought it was a funny failure state, and it prompted a nice conversation about mammas and daddas and babies with the kiddo.
