How many more hours? 😭

Hi guys, I am currently using Ripley for my fieldwork hours and am doing a mix of concentrated and supervised (primarily concentrated). I have 1784 hours right now which means I need 216 more (I think). However, this will only bring me into about 900 or so unrestricted hours. As I understand it, Ripley automatically calculates your hours with the multiplier, so am I correct in assuming I just have the 2000-1784=216 correct as long as that’s still 60% of my hours? Or should there be something else I should be doing? I just want to make sure I’m on the right track and am calculating everything correctly!

Saying goodbye to class as RBT

This may be a bit of a strange question, but my client is an early elementary age learner and in a gen ed classroom. I am getting reassigned, so I will not be seeing any of my client’s classmates ever again. There is one particular classmate who has been remarkably kind to my client (even when my client has behaviors, this peer still does their best to calm my client and be their friend). This client has never judged my client and when other kids treated my client differently, this peer never did. This peer has also grown particularly fond of me and told me today they were feeing very sad they won’t see me anymore. I thought it would be a nice gesture to write a small note to this peer and thank them for being such a good friend to my client and being such a nice kid and that I hope they grow up to do awesome things. The kid has said many times they want to grow up to help kids like I do. This kid has been the most inclusive and supportive kid to my client and I see it every day, and I want to be able to thank them and their parent (I’m assuming they will read the note too). However, I do worry this is out of line as an RBT to do in the form of a note and maybe I should just do it verbally and hope that means enough to this particular peer. Nowhere in this note will I disclose HIPAA info or my relationship to the client, the kids all know me as my client’s buddy/aide/helper/etc. I also worry about other kids feeling left out for not getting notes. I do think the peer will stay friends with my client for years to come as they already have play dates scheduled. Any thoughts? Am I crossing a line? What would you do here?

Question about exam and fieldwork

Hi guys! I’m currently accruing hours towards my BCBA. I’ve been accruing hours since February of 2025 and got my masters fall 2024. Sadly I only have about 500 unrestricted, but I’m done with restricted (although I have been looking through my trackers and think I can come up with 100-200 more unrestricted hours I lost when switching trackers). I read through what the board has posted and didn’t find the resources overly helpful, so I’m looking for real human advice (lol). Anyway, I’m going to be pushing it to get my hours done and take my exam before the 2027 requirements go into effect. I have a few questions:

  1. Should I just start having my supervisors sign off on the 2027 forms just in case? How far back should I go with those forms? All the way to the beginning?
  2. What happens if I sit for the exam in November or December like I’m projected but I fail and have to retest in 2027? Do I need to now meet the 2027 requirements or should I be okay since I applied originally in 2026?
I feel like I’m floundering here, someone please help lol. Thank you!:)

How to pay for supervision?

Hi guys, I’m just not getting enough supervision hours towards my BCBA. I’ve been accruing hours since February of last year and I just figured out I only have like 500 unrestricted hours or less, but I’m done with restricted (also looking to leave my company bc of this, but that’s not the point)
I know you can pay people to give you your hours, my question is how/where are you guys doing this and how many hours are you getting doing it? I want to take my exam as soon as possible since I’m worried about the changes coming in 2027. Thank you!:)

Hi guys, I already have my masters and I’ve finished restricted hour collection and I’m just working on unrestricted towards my BCBA. I love the field and the work, but I’ve got some health problems that may prevent me from being in the field long term. Im also starting to burn out. Needless to say, I’m devastated. I am still hoping maybe being a BCBA will be less stressful than an RBT, but I think that’s wishful thinking. Without getting into too much, I have a handful of heart problems and the magnitude and occasionally unpredictability of behaviors is causing me a lot of stress and higher heart rates which is leading to chest pain in and outside of work. It’s just not feasible long term. Obviously, I paid for a master’s in ABA and now I’m kind of pigeon holed I fear. Is there anything a bit less stressful than being a BCBA? Is it just because I work with littles? Should I keep trying? What else can I do? I’ve looked into behavior consultant jobs and the pay is either bad for the work or they’re just not available near me. Same kind of with developmental therapy. Any ideas? Thank you guys:)
