BSH broke her "no lap" rule to comfort my anxiety
Hi everyone, longtime lurker here dreaming of my own BSH after I graduate college. I’m a young CASA volunteer, and a foster home I visit has two BSHs.
Today on my way over, a teen driver absolutely rear-ended my car!! I had to call my dad crying for help, which was an embarrassing ordeal. I arrived at the house with my cortisol and stress levels through the roof.I sat on the couch completely still, quiet, and deeply anxious while listening to my supervisor and caseworker.
Queenie, the foster mom’s adorable BSH, walked past multiple people, including her owner, and curled right into my lap. She purred fiercely while I pet her, and my massive panic completely melted away. Usually, Queenie just tolerates a quick scratch before prancing off into another room.
I know British Shorthairs aren't typical lap cats, which makes this feel so special.
Maybe she liked how still and seemingly unbothered I was? I know cats sometimes prefer people who ignore them lol. But I choose to think maybe she smelled my extreme panic and chose to help me. Either way, I have so much love for how this kitty who purred up a storm on my lap and reduced my cortisol by so much 🥺 please give all your adorable BSH kitties the love they deserve for how magical their presence is. I don’t know if this was the right place to post it, but I just wanted to get off my chest how happy that cat made me.
