Hey everyone, I’m interested in entering the hiring season for next year and wanted to get some opinions on how my current qualifications and experience would be viewed by recruiters. I’m also trying to figure out whether I would have a decent chance of finding a job this hiring season, or if it would be smarter to stay in the U.S. and teach for a another year or two. My teaching background is a little nontraditional: I taught Kindergarten for 2 years at a charter school while uncertified, then I entered a Master of Arts in Teaching program at a local university, which allowed me to obtain a provisional license. I then taught at an IB world school for the next 2 years under that provisional license while completing my degree. I have now recently received my full professional license, so this upcoming school year would be my first year teaching while fully certified.

With that in mind, how would this combination of experience typically be viewed by hiring managers? Would my two years teaching at an IB school under a provisional license still be valued as legitimate experience, or is there usually a much bigger emphasis on years taught after receiving a full license? How much would having the Master’s degree help my chances, and does already having IB/PYP experience make me a stronger candidate? I’m mainly looking at Tier 2 schools, though I’d also be open to Tier 3 schools if that’s the more realistic entry point. I’d really appreciate any honest insight.
