One good thing

What small positive thing did you have this week? If you can't think of one, I have an assignment for you: Walk to a mirror and look at yourself. Stand there and really see yourself. Begin to look at your image and say one thing nice about yourself. We have all had plenty of negative talk over the years, it's time for us to be our own cheerleaders!

Sweetener?

Ok friends, I need some help! I have been looking at recipes trying to find more nutritious was to make things we really love. Being from the South it is definitely a chore relearn years of butter and fried food. I also have a granddaughter that sniffs out any "modified" food. I have recently made two new brownie recipes, one with sweet potatoes and one with bananas. Needless to say, they were not a hit. However, the one that I made with 2 cups of sugar and almost two cups of chocolate chips was a winner. Do you have a particular sweetener you use that still does the job but is still better for you? Any good healthy recipe sites that are actually recipes a 12 year old will be satisfied with?

Building muscle

When I first began this journey I dropped weight quickly, but I still wasn't exercising like I should have. When I finally added walking I began to see improvement in my energy. A little over a month ago I added resistance bands to my schedule. You guys, it has been the best thing ever. I look forward to waking up in the mornings! It is only 20 minutes followed by 5 minutes of stretching. I feel stronger and I am beginning to build muscle. Just remember two things if you begin to strengthen your muscles 1. Muscle weighs more than fat so don't let that bother you. 2. It is totally worth it!

Doctor's report

My starting weight was 226 and I got down to 160 so I began to ween off my medication. I began to see about a 5lb gain on and off (I like to say it was holiday weight😏). I had my Biyearly lab work done and my cholesterol was up too high. So I decided to get on the maintenance plan at the beginning of the year. I am happy to say my lab work came back all within the normal range and I got a clean bill of health from my cardiologist! This was a reminder that I can't just take the medication, I have to alter my lifestyle as well. I have to make wise decisions about the food I eat and I must get my body moving! It doesn't have to be drastic. I started slowly with resistance bands and stretches and walking on a walking pad. I still need to make my walking more on a regular basis, but I am really feeling much better. Less aches and pains than usual and I am building more stamina. I can do this, YOU can do this! Keep going, you won't regret it!

Exercise

I posted a few days ago about me starting to use resistance bands. I didn't mention that I am almost 60 years old as well. So between my age and loosing weight so quickly I was definitely loosing muscle and strength. Sticking to this routine has made me feel stronger than I have in years. I can't tell you what actually shifted to help me start and stick with it, but I can tell you it has been worth it. Start one small task that's good for your body, even if it is walking back and forth in your hallway. Do it for a whole week no matter what and see how you feel. Also, make sure you are involved with a community of like minded people. Encouragement on your journey will be the biggest blessing of all! You can do this!

I finally did it.

Ok here's the scoop. I've been on glp1 for a little over 2 years and last 6 months I have been on maintenance. I have lost over 60lb but I'm still working on exercising regularly. The only thing I have been doing is walking, which is good, but I could tell I was loosing muscle. I bought some resistance bands over a year ago, that I never used. I finally decided to open the box and talk myself into starting. The first day I was pretty sore, but I'm actually looking forward to my workout. I only do a 10 minute workout from a video I found on the internet followed by 5 minutes of stretching. I just regret not starting this sooner!

What's yours?

This question may have asked in the past, but I'm posting because I'm curious. What is one thing you gave up for your journey? I'll go first.

SWEET TEA!!! I'm a southern girl so I need my tea! I figured they would put a glass ofer it in my coffin when I died!

There is hope. I found a water flavor mix that is no calories and sugar free and I love it! All I drink now is water, accept on special occasions. Haven't gone back in over a year!

Nausea

I'm trying to figure out what is causing my nausea. I have been on tirzepatide for 2 years and about 6 months of that has been at a maintenance dose. Recently I have been focused on hydration. Since I have increased my water intake I wake up in the morning nauseous. Anybody else experience this? Not sure if it's tirzepatide related or not.

Meal Planning

Since my household now has 3 people on Glp1 medication I am always looking for new recipes to try. Has anyone come across any good apps or sites that help you plan easy budget friendly, anti-inflammatory, high in protein meals?

Encouragement

Thought I would share some encouragement for those thinking about trying a GLP. I have been on tirzepatide for 2 years. And maintenance the last 6 months. I have lost

60 lbs, and this is the only thing that ever worked. So, if you are thinking about GLP 1 try it.

Vacation

For all those going on vacation this summer, let me share a little insight. We just got back from a week at the beach and my body knows I'm out of rhythm. Big heavy meals, I wasn't able to finish. It was the snacking that got me. That's why at home the rule is, "if it's not here, I won't reach for it." I'm not saying don't endulge a little, I'm just saying bring your protein bars and healthy snacks along. Keep getting those steps in and for goodness sake sure wherever you stay has a decent mattress! Enjoy your summer 🌞
