How long is too long to wait for a broker to submit mortgage application?

Hi, Need a sense check on whether I am being overly sensitive or ambitious or if I should tell my mortgage broker to stand down and submit the application myself.

Timeline:

27 April offer accepted

30 April initial meeting with mortgage broker (recommended through estate agent)

Very quickly settled on HSBC because of a few complicating factors meaning they're our best option

By 5 May we had sent all requested documents to the broker. Documents sat in WeTransfer until the day of expiry when I reminded him to download them.

Since then, nothing seems to have happened. We've sent emails enquiring on progress and have received vague replies saying things are 'progressing' but never telling us that the application has been submitted. Today we pushed for a clear answer on whether he has submitted the application or not, and the reply was:

"Initial information has been provided to HSBC which is in process of being reviewed and then confirmation of agreement in principle. I expect this to be completed today and I can then complete the full application and provide your documents to them."

It's been 10 days since we gave him all the documents. We already secured an agreement in principle with HSBC ourselves at the point of making the offer in April. I was under the impression it would be a quick matter of pushing the AIP over the line with our supporting documents. The broker is terrible over email, using lots of words without answering questions clearly.

My question is: am I being unreasonable? We are not paying for his services (he takes commission from lender) so I expect he is working with a ton of people.

Would it be silly of me to tell him to stand down and just submit the application myself online today? It would take me half an hour and I could have done it a week ago. If this annoyed him what's the worst he could do given that he has our sensitive documents?

Is our mortgage broker messing us around?

Would it kill them to remove single-line rolls from the game?

I have over 4 million murk to spend because why should I sit through the Sell Now Simulator for rolls like this after playing for 800 hours? Never mind that 80% of the relic effects are useless, over half the relics I roll are one line only. Why does the relic system still need to be this awful?

Anyone have experience with Bishopsgate Law conveyancing they are willing to share? They've come back with a really competitive quote but I know they are a national online agency with no office we could walk into. Trying to figure out if it's worth spending an extra £1000 to get a solicitor from a local office to do it. Plenty of good (and of course some bad) reviews in both cases.
