Wondering if I am filling a gap or just building something only I care about
Hey everyone, looking for honest feedback from people doing cold outbound.
I’ve been building something for myself while working on my own startup, and I’m trying to figure out if this is actually a real gap or if I just personally hate this part of sales.
For context, my background is software/security engineering, not sales. I spent years building internal tools at a large company, then left to build a startup in the public safety / emergency response space.
Once I started doing founder-led outbound, I realized how much time I was spending just trying to make emails not sound like garbage.
I had the normal stuff set up. Lead lists, sequencing, enrichment, etc. But still felt bottlenecked.
Even if I had a decent lead, I still had to:
- go look them up
- understand what their company actually does
- find something relevant
- figure out if they were even a good fit
- and then somehow turn that into an email that did not sound like: “noticed you’re the CEO at XYZ”
Most of the tools I found helped with finding leads or sending sequences, but not really with the middle part of who they are, why they should care, and what angles should I go with.
I felt like I was spending a few hours each day, or at least each week, diving into each person.
So I built a tool for myself that did this for me. Then a few founder friends saw it and liked it, so I started expanding it.
The basic idea is pretty simple.
You add your campaign, what you’re selling, why it's great, who you’re selling to, and how you sound.
Then you can either upload a CSV of leads for fast triage and get back quick signals for each with opener ideas and fit scoring.
Or you can use just a LinkedIn URL or company website and get significantly deeper research profile with useful context, angles, pain points, company info, socials, work history, interests, affiliations, etc, with all the sources too.
Then it can help turn that into emails, LinkedIn messages, follow ups, call openers, or just little personalization snippets.
I wanted something that helped me get my day back and made the research/writing part less painful. Something that gave me a better starting point instead of staring at LinkedIn or their website.
I’ve been using it for my own outbound and pre-call research, and it has saved me a lot of time and has worked surprisingly well. I've seen:
- Better reply rates
- More meetings booked
- hours saved each week time on research and email personalization
I honestly don’t know if this is something other reps or founders would actually use, or if I’m just too close to the problem because I live it every day.
If you do cold email, is this a real problem for you too? Would something like this actually help your workflow?
Or is this already solved well enough with Clay / Apollo / Smartlead / ChatGPT and I’m just overthinking it?
