How can I make my deaf friend more comfortable?
I don’t know if the title fits, but generally I have a lot of questions.
I’m completely hearing, and theres a person that I have a huge crush on. They’re deaf and use a cochlear implant, but I want to know how I can make her more comfortable.
We’re great friends, and I learn ASL with them every day. They’re funny, and just overall one of my favorite people to talk to. I just want to know how I can make them more comfortable. They always talk about how hearing people have a different culture and different understanding of the way the world works, and I want to limit the amount of disconnect between cultures that we have.
I just don’t think it’s fair that they have to accommodate to my culture, and I would rather accommodate to theirs.
Any tips, at all? Good sites to learn ASL, culture awareness, overall tips on how not to be the worst hearing person they’ve ever met?
