Just trying to get an idea what areas are affected. My whole complex by University Center electricity is out as of 10pm tonight.

These are my only two setups:

Shimano Trinidad 16A, 50lb braid with 30lb topshot mono. Paired with Phenix Black Diamond 8’0” Heavy. This will be primarily for fly-lining, but possibly convert to dropper loop if using squid.

Daiwa Saltist 5000 spinning reel, 30lb braid with 20lb flouro topshot. Paired with Daiwa Saltist 7’6” XH boat rod. Using this to cast 60-80g current snipers if there’s a shortage of live bait.

This’ll be an overnight out of Davey’s locker on the Agressor. Not exactly sure where they’ll be hitting. Maybe Catalina?

I know a lot of anglers bring 4-6 setups for different situations, but this is all my budget allows for now. I’m just wondering if it’s necessary to be equipped with a heavier duty 2-speed reel/rod combo. If so, I’d have to rent. What do you all think? Add an extra setup by renting, or just “run what I brung”?

I booked my first overnight with the Agressor with max 15 anglers. I’m wondering if anyone has gone on this charter before. I don’t see any recent fish counts on the Davey’s website, and there are only a handful of YouTube videos specifically highlighting this boat. I wanted to get on the Thunderbird because they’ve been hitting the yellowtail pretty good the last few weeks, but most of August was sold out.

Specifically, I wanted to see if anyone had experience with the crew of the Agressor and if they were helpful with anglers. Also, I noticed the Agressor went under new ownership about a year ago so I’m not sure how that affected anything.

Anyway, if anyone has any info on it, I appreciate it!

I passed Irvine PD cruiser making a traffic stop on a white Tesla. The officer was in the process of asking the driver to step out of the vehicle. The Asian man was young- approximately early 30’s or late 20’s. The driver was stepping out of the vehicle as ai passed.

On my way back from my errand approximately 20 minutes later I passed the same traffic stop going the other direction on Irvine Blvd. This time, there were two additional unmarked cars with law enforcement lights and dark tint. One was a Honda Odyssey minivan, the other was a Jeep Grand Cherokee. There were about 5 ICE agents surrounding the Asian gentleman who was now in handcuffs and sitting on the curb.

Has there been a lot of ICE activity in Irvine area targeting people of Asian descent? Sorry, no pics since I was driving at the time.

So I’ve been doing a lot of shore fishing, but lately wanting to get into charter fishing off SoCal coast. I used to go on charters many years ago from Davey’s Locker and would always rent my gear from them.

Now that I’m further along in my fishing hobby, I decided to buy my own gear if I’m planning on going charter fishing multiple times in the future. I went with the following “light” setup for rockfish, calicos, or schoolie yellowtail:

Daiwa Saltist 4000 spinning reel with a Saltist MH 7’6” boat rod

I’d like to invest in a star drag or conventional 2-speed reel and rod combo to bring in case the boat encounters bigger fish like bluefin or yelllowtail tuna under 100lbs. I prefer to fly line live bait or cast surface irons based on some of the videos I’ve watched on SoCal charters.

What heavier reel/rod combo do you guys recommend?

I’m in the SoCal area, but figured a lot of you anglers head up to the Eastern Sierras for Fishmas or trout opener up there. I plan on hitting up Lake Sabrina on the way up. Staying in the June Lake area, so I plan on fishing that group of lakes. Any other spots can anyone recommend? Taking my two kids, so they will be throwing spoons and possibly a bobber setup with a nymph or fly lures.
