How to get tight sounding ghost notes with 7/8 string?

Hi all, I am having a lot of trouble making my ghost notes sound good. I'm trying to learn the 1st verse riff in Wormholes by Volumes for example, and they sound like a complete mess even though I'm playing the rhythm correctly 😭 I can't find any info online about this specific issue. I'm holding my left hand over the strings, but here are my questions:

  1. Sometimes I get harmonics depending on where on the fretboard I hold down, is there a specific harmonic I want? If not, is there a "best" place to hold my hand on the fretboard to just get a nice tight chk sound?

  2. Do I strike multiple strings at once, or just one string? If just one, should it be on the fret of the note I just played?

  3. Is the tone an issue? I imagine less gain helps

Thanks so much!

What is Meshuggah's most THALL song??

My favorite band is Meshuggah, my second favorite is Vildhjarta. Both some of the most incredible, mind-blowing music I've ever heard. I've seen a lot of people talk about Meshuggah's influences on Vildhjarta, which I don't actually hear much, but I want to know the opposite: what Meshuggah song, if any, do you think thalls the hardest??

My vote is Sum (biased because Vild played it at the awards ceremony)
