endurance

I’m very out of shape (more than i thought) but recently ive picked up on field hockey for my highschools team and theres a running requirement of 2 miles in less than 17 minutes. i have until August for this. Anywho, i decided to start training for it and initially i thought i would be able to get it pretty soon but today when i went on a run i could only run about 400m before my lungs started hurting awfully. i didnt even run it fast, finishing it in about 2:40. I know this is awful, but im really not sure what to do.

im looking for some help on how to build the endurance and speed to get under 17 as well as if its even possible and what workouts i should do

Endurance training

I’m very out of shape, i used to work out pretty often but solely out of fun and seeing what new things i could do (i was very into calisthenics and other core/upper body things). recently, ive picked up on field hockey for my highschools team and theres a running requirement of 2 miles in less than 17 minutes. i have until August for this. endurance building

i have tryouts for field hockey early august (i could push it to maybe late august) my endurance is awful like HORRIBLE and i need to pass a test of a 17 minute 2 mile. how can i build enough endurance for this? any workouts to get my mile at about 8 minutes maybe? i know we can stop to rest in between laps or whenever we need im just kind of nervous.

First time player

I have never played field hockey before (like never even touched a stick) im an upcoming sophomore and i have always found field hockey pretty interesting so i decided i should try it out. field hockey summer practices start in about august-september and i want to get decently okay. i dont expect varsity or anything of the sort but i want to be good enough to where i dont dread the sport. im around 5’2-5’3 and im looking to buy a field hockey stick, shoes, shin guards etc. ive heard osaka has really good ones but upon further research i saw the higher the carbon fiber the least forgiving it is, especially on new players. Yet i have also heard STX is pretty awful and all my friends in field tell me the higher the carbon the better the stick and to just get osaka. does anyone have any recommendations? im looking to start practicing now so im not horrible when practices start.
