Dysplastic Nevus Syndrome
I’m a 34-year-old guy who was recently diagnosed with Dysplastic Nevus Syndrome (DNS). I have around 100 moles, maybe a little more or less, it’s honestly hard to count them all myself. I only went to a dermatologist for the first time because a friend of mine ended up getting melanoma, which kind of pushed me to finally get checked out.
I have a lot of atypical moles, some bigger ones with irregular patterns and different appearances. What feels strange to me is that nobody else in my family has a ton of moles or any history of melanoma.
So far I’ve had 6 biopsies done — 3 spots my dermatologist picked and 3 that I asked about myself. Results came back as 5 benign and 1 minimal-to-mild atypia.
I guess I’m just wondering if there are other people out there like me. Does anyone else here have a really high mole count without family history? If you have DNS, what’s your experience been like and how long have you been dealing with it?
I’m planning on doing mole mapping too, but the specialist near me is almost impossible to get into. My dermatologist says I shouldn’t stress too much, but having this many moles makes it hard not to think about it.
Just curious what life has been like for other people dealing with this.
