How can I make D&D mechanics easier to remember for one of my players?
I have a player who is completely new to D&D. She enjoys playing with our current home game group, but has a hard time getting used to the sheer amount of rules D&D has. She is more used to more narrative driven and rules light systems. She played a rune knight fighter (lvl1-3 over 7 sessions) and barely used more than her weapon attacks and some skill and tool checks. She often couldn't remember the class/subclass mechanics. I told her she could just say what she wanted her character to do and I would translate that into D&D mechanics, but still it was a lot to her. How can I help her to get used to the mechanics of D&D? Is it as simple as just having her play more until she figures it out? I don't think flash cards or flowcharts will help her since that is just more stuff to read.
