Advice for one of my students
Hello,
I am a high school teacher in Wythenshawe UK, and I am writing to you for some advice for a student. She is in year 9 at the moment and 14 years old and she has a huge interest in neurology and wishes to be a neurosurgeon when she is older, motivated by her mother suffering from a brain tumour. We have spoken at length about the prognosis, and she is a fantastic girl but comes from a deprived area with no father figure and has little STEM modelling or experience. Can you possibly give me some advice about what a student can do at this age and beyond to become a neurosurgeon and be able to help other young people in her position? All I am able to offer myself in the necessary grades, degrees and the academic journey. What could you see on an application to this speciality that would make her stand out in this competitive environment from this age going forward?
