‘Softshell’ use case

Hi all, hear me out.

I live in the UK, it’s wet, cold, sunny, boiling hot, humid, snowy and windy all in the space of a day.

I own and I am a huge fan of the gamma SL/LT, I have a 2 anorak SL and a newer LT. I really like them but find that they get only get limited use climbing and hiking in the UK. I always carry a shell but will wait until the last moment until I put it on as I’m an absolute gusher when it comes to sweating.

Wondering if this community could shed some thoughts on hanging up the gamma and going with something more like the Squamish, light enough that taking it for a walk and not using it isn’t an issue, but I’m wondering if there are any major drawbacks when compared to something like a gamma for both UK and alps uses. Or are soft shell style jackets pointless for my use case and a fleece and a shell is all that’s needed?

Grateful for all of your thoughts.

Twin Gate Carabiner with PAS

Hi all, first post here. I’m looking at getting a PAS, something like the OCUN Sbea. I was wondering if anyone had experience of using twin gate carabiners for this use rather than a screwgate. As far as I can tell on the Sbea the carabiner doesn’t provide friction in the device.

Primary use would be UK multi pitch trad (I don’t normally use a PAS but might) and also some winter climbing (hence my thoughts around the benefits of a wire gate and not a screwgate)

Has anyone had any experience of doing this, grateful to hear any thoughts on compatibility or safety too.
