Over the course of the night a mosquito has been frequently flying up to me. I have been trying to kill it. However, there was a crucial problem… the mosquito seemed to understand that I was trying to kill it. I don’t mean in an instinctually way, but rather an intelligent way.

I firmly do not believe it is possible for insects to have a consciousness but this mosquito has made me doubt even that. For example every-time it came up to me it seemed “cautious” almost as tho it were waiting for me to swipe at it. Every-time I would it would fly away and hide for about 30 minutes before trying again.

We eventually reached the final encounter, I too had learned and I managed to track it across my room. And yet to my surprise it wasn’t just running it was HIDING. And not just after I would swat at it, it saw me looking and knew to hide, even going so far as hiding behind a pillar.

I am ashamed to admit but I lost to this mosquito. It escaped me and I feared another attack in 30 minutes. As I sat down and accepted defeat I noticed something out of the corner of my eye: a crushed mosquito. I had accidentally killed it. What haunts me is it was not my efforts that killed it, but the mosquitos mistake.

TLDR: An intelligent Mosquito seemed to learn my attack patterns and has made me doubt all logical evidence regarding insect intelligence.
