G6 55" PC Monitor received today; Definite potential but probably a return

Just wanted to post my experience with the G6 so that others are aware. I've seen some of this posted elsewhere but I'll reiterate.

The Good: 120Hz SDR looks great. Text clarity is a step up from the G5 and even at 55" on a (large) desk, I don't think the average person would notice that it's not quite as nice as a good IPS/VA monitor. Native Resolution 3048x2160 @ 60Hz HDR seems to run as it should and is ok except for the 60Hz gaming part.

The Bad: This thing and Windows don't get along. I think I had my G4 right at release and it had very similar issues with changing aspect ratio/resolution/frequemcy. At the moment, my main PC refuses to see the 21:9 & 32:9 aspect ratios. Rebooting, Resetting, Unplugging....nothing seems to work. I'll probably try the self diagnosis and different hdmi ports tomorrow, but I've already tried my other PC and it "works" for now. I only did a 5 minute test.

The Ugly:

  1. I'll continue from the Bad.....even though the second PC allowed me to switch to 21:9 and even do 3840x1600@165Hz like I run on my G5, it looked awful. Awful as in practically unusable....it's as if it's upscaling some other resolution in the background and some parts of text get fat while others are too skinny. This is the first issue with anything more than 60Hz.
  2. HDR above 60Hz looks wayyy off. This one's been noted a couple times on here and by Vincent in his latest video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfD9sOYhDiQ&t=887s).

Red is way off, but the entire screen looks washed out in HDR above 60Hz

Hopefully LG can come out with a firmware to fix these in the next week or so, so that I don't have to return the G6. I'm sure it'll be a great monitor at some point but at the moment, anyone that actually wants to use it right away should be aware that it's terrible in its current state.
