OSM Checking Insight from Examiner
Hello, I am an 11th grader and today I was talking to my CS teacher who went for 12th Board Evaluation about our school's and overall board result.
She told us that they were given strict unrealistic timelines for evaluation (For example, her evaluation center gave them a timeline to complete checking in 4 days, which actually took them 8 days to complete). This may explain any errors done due to rushed evaluation.
Other than this, they were instructed for by the book strict checking, and ensured that grace marks would be awarded to the students later. However, later no grace marks were awarded/allowed by HE or CBSE (not sure).
She also told me that she gave a student 69/70, and the error done was a silly MCQ, however the AHE/HE reduced the score to 65/70 deliberately, despite her protests as the student had actually done everything correct and was knowledgeable.
Regarding failing, a lot of borderline students were actually not passed like previous years, where examiners used to sometimes use blue pen to write a few ans to allow the student to be passed, which was not possible due to OSM. In such a case that the student was only short by a few marks but no answer could be given more marks, they were forced to fail by them by a higher margin else CBSE would question them/send mails/blacklist them.
An interesting case about technologically incapable examiners also came up. Some old examiners only checked 2-3 sheets and then just refused to move forward and thus the other evaluators were forced to check their share of sheets as well which may have impacted evaluation quality and temperament.
Also there was only one centum from the copies her group checked, and our school also got only 1 centum in Political Science from the entire 12th grade. Mind you, this school has produced state toppers of 12th boards twice in the last ~4 years, all facilitated by the CM and awarded cash prizes. In fact the Commerce topper last year had 99%+, while the Commerce topper this year got only 92%. The school also had 7-8 centum in English last year.
In the end, she also said this was the case for almost all subjects regarding the failing and grace marks promised initially, which she heard about from other teachers at the center upon discussion.
At last, she said "The boards weren't fair this year for the students."
So yea, that's that. I am not even sure, what would be the situation in our time.
