20M drowning in debt after mother’s emergency life-saving surgery while she was in India, currently cannot afford proper food
Assalamu Alaikum and hello everyone. I am a 20-year-old eldest son, and I am currently facing a severe financial breakdown.
Recently, my mother was in India when she went through a massive medical emergency. The hospital there refused to operate or give her the critical care she needed to survive unless they received the money upfront. Being thousands of miles away and desperate to save her life, I was forced into a corner and had to take out heavy, high-interest personal loans immediately just so they would perform the surgeries.
To protect her fragile health right now—she is still very sick and suffers from critically high blood pressure—I am keeping this massive debt a secret from her so she doesn't panic. She believes everything was paid completely from my personal savings, because adding this level of stress could genuinely endanger her life during recovery.
As a result of these loans, I am completely drowning. I live entirely alone and work constantly to try and keep up with the payments, but I've reached my breaking point. I can only cover my most basic day-to-day expenses and I haven't been able to afford proper food for two weeks, surviving entirely on old leftovers.
I have started a GoFundMe fundraiser in the hopes of reaching some kind hearts. Even $1/£1 makes a massive difference for me right now to help me buy groceries and get back on my feet. If you are unable to donate, simply sharing my post would mean the world to me.
Thank you so much for reading, and may God bless you for your kindness
