Moving Apartments This Week

I am moving to a new, larger apartment this week. I think this will be an awesome time for me to declutter. I have a lot of stuff, made worse by the small size of my apartment. I want my new place to be clutter-free from the start.

My big issue is knowing what to get rid of. I feel like I’ve pared down a ton, but I’m still surrounded by clutter. My space is about to increase by ~50%, but I’d like to reduce my possessions to increase the clutter-free vibe of the new place.

Have you been successful decluttering during a move? How do you deal with the “I might need this later” trap?

I see a lot of posts here and on other subs about RCS and WhatsApp being “absolutely vital“ to have on a phone. What I don’t understand is why I don’t see more people bothered by the fact that Meta and Google essentially own messaging across the globe. With some exceptions, they have made the world dependent on their services and no one questions it? New phones have to play ball with them or they can’t sell? What?

Maybe I’m the weird one because I’ve never used WhatsApp and I don’t care if my phone has RCS, but I think it’s wild that this is allowed.

I think we should shift focus from expecting phones to have these services to deciding it’s not okay that two of the largest corporations on the planet have that much control over communication. The Light Phone can’t have RCS because Google says so, and that means a bunch of functionality breaks when texting other types of phones? That’s not okay.

And you can’t convince me that Meta and Google aren’t somehow stealing information. I wouldn’t trust those two companies with anything.

I’d go back to emailing before I’d use WhatsApp, that’s for sure.
