Landlords using maintenance guys for pest control. Legal? Illegal? Grey area?
I’m wondering if anyone else has experience with this and if I have a landlord in violation of the law. I know that pest control is the landlord’s duty but unsure if this means they are required to hire professionals or are just required to deal with it with no mandates on how or who.
I spotted an insect in my place recently and they had maintenance come in and spray. They insisted on maintenance and told me they were trained. When they came, I asked what chemical but they told me they didn’t know which alarmed me. You mean to tell me this guy doesn’t know what he is spraying?
Anyway so I’m a little worried about my pests issue now as you can imagine. I’m wondering how common it is for landlords to handle this not with professionals but with maintenance workers and if this is in violation of some ordinance?
