Pop OS 22.04 weird "hanging" issue

Hello everyone.

Having a real weird experience the last couple days and searching the internet for answers has not been as fruitful as i hoped. My install of Pop 22.04 has started "hanging" the last couple days. Hanging is in quotes because its a real weird hang - the desktop is responsive and i can mouse/click/type etc, but nothing *new* will launch.

If i have FIrefox, terminal, and Steam open, i can use these apps no problem, but if i want to launch anything that wasn't already open, i can't. Killing gdm3 from an alt terminal works, as does rebooting (obviously).

current on updates, happens with flatpak as well as system apps. Its only been a couple days that its been happening, but it *seems* to only happen after i've been away from it long enough for the monitor to blank out. I have it set to never sleep and the monitor to not actually turn off, just go black screen after inactivity, so i don't think its a sleep state or a graphics driver (nvidia) thing either, but i'm open to counter-arguments for those too.

TL;DR
Pop 22.04 goes "unresponsive" after its been up for a few hours, but only for launching apps that weren't already running - what gives?
