Fourth of July made me sad this year

As I’m sure many could agree, I am not happy with the current state of the country. But that never stopped me from celebrating the 4th of July, because it’s a holiday for all of us, not just for those on the right. I also love history, particularly the revolution. But I’m also not ignorant of the wrongs of those who came before us. It should all be taught.

That being said, I went to a 4th of July event this year and was super stoked since it was 250. The crowds were huge. I also attended a ceremony to honor and remember the enslaved people who did not get their freedom in 1776, which is also incredibly important to remember on July 4th. With the huge crowd that was at this event, and the few people at the enslaved peoples ceremony, it just made me sad and think more about the state of the country.

It made me sad about our history and less intrigued by our history, which has always been a passion of mine. I don’t know, I am feeling a little lost, like the right are trying to take the country for themselves. And I know that’s always talked about online and in the news. But it just kind of hit me in the face on our nation’s 250th.
