youtube.comWHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO JULIE GONZALES?!?
Now that the election is over, I think I'm finally ready to get this off my chest: what the hell is going on with Julie?
Ever since she appeared on Hasan's stream, there have been a lot of red flags that I haven't been able to shake.
First, why did she leave the DSA? Her explanation was that her membership simply lapsed and she didn't renew because she felt she couldn't meaningfully contribute or commit to the organization. That never made much sense to me. Why let your membership expire and then immediately decide to run for Senate? If you cared about the organization and its values, why not just renew? It's like canceling your gym membership and then entering a bodybuilding competition. It feels like there was probably another reason, and I wish she had been more straightforward about it.
Then, during her appearance with Hasan, he was practically spoon-feeding her answers and repeatedly telling her to just clearly state that Israel is committing a genocide because chat was getting frustrated with her evasiveness. At the time, I gave her the benefit of the doubt and figured maybe it was just a communication issue.
But then came the Denver event. When venues pulled out, Julie released a statement, and the very first sentence was, "I will not attend the rally with Hasan Piker." That struck me as incredibly odd. If I were in her position, my priority would've been condemning Diana DeGette and the venues for canceling an event that was ultimately meant to support her campaign. Instead, the first thing she did was distance herself from Hasan.
She also publicly stated that she didn't want to fundraise alongside Melat and some of the others. Again, why? Hasan gave her an enormous amount of grace throughout this entire process, and yet she seemed determined to create distance between herself and the people who had supported her. She didn't even stop by to meet Hasan and promote herself at the house like the others did.
I also saw several people in chat today claiming that she implied Melat was antisemitic last week. I haven't verified that myself, so maybe its not true.
Then there was that bearded DSA guy (Deep?) on stream today, who said that Julie ran a very strange campaign that somehow managed to alienate both the left and centrist moderates at the same time. He is an on-ground organizer, so i trust his assessment.
After the stream, I checked her Instagram and found a comment from one of her early supporters and canvassers. They said they voted for her as the lesser evil rather than because they were genuinely excited about her campaign. They also criticized her campaign manager for being condescending toward volunteers and described the campaign's Palestine messaging as wishy-washy and inconsistent. I attached the images.
There are other things I could bring up, but this post is already long enough.
What frustrates me most is this: if Julie actually believed Hasan's audience and the broader pro-Palestine left were racist antisemites, then why come to us in the first place? Why take the donations, attention, and support from these communities only to distance yourself from them the moment it became politically inconvenient?
And for what? She still lost to Hinklepooper.
It feels like a massive waste of time, money, energy, and goodwill that could have gone toward candidates who were more genuine and more committed to the values they claimed to represent.
I'm not saying every progressive has to agree with Hasan or every part of the online left. But if you're going to build your campaign on the support of those communities, at least be honest about where you stand instead of abandoning them the moment the pressure starts.

theguardian.comOn the disturbing rise of leftists with “Hasan derangement syndrome”
Recently, while doomscrolling on the internet, I’ve been seeing more and more posts from leftists who despise Hasan while suffering from what I can only describe as Hasan derangement syndrome. In the past, I would only see this behavior from libs, centrists, or right-wing accounts, people who don’t have a well-defined worldview of their own and whose politics simply revolve around Hasan and taking the exact opposite position of whatever Hasan’s position is.
An example of that would be somebody like Hutch saying Kamala’s speech at the DNC was good only because Hasan didn’t like it. Or when neolibs say Gavin Newsom is the best candidate because Hasan said he wouldn’t vote for him. A more recent and funny example was when I saw Nazi accounts shitting on Imperial Japan because they saw a clip with the clickbait title that Hasan was defending Imperial Japan. When his position was clarified to them, they changed their position and started defending Imperial Japan again. Or when Fuentes’ fans try to wokescold Hasan for calling Nick Fuentes gay, etc.
But now I’m seeing this behavior from leftists. There are small but very vocal pockets on Twitter, TikTok, YouTube that talk about Hasan in such a vile and disgusting manner that it rivals even the sexpest communities. I am not simply talking about them stating their differences with Hasan in a harsh tone and leaving it at that. I’m talking about behavior where they encourage one another to boycott Hasan, but then also promote links to watching his livestream mirrored on Discord or YouTube so as not to give him their viewership.
Or going into his chat and ragebaiting him specifically to clip him defending AOC or Platner because it makes for great anti-Hasan content useful for “radicalizing” people in his community. Or joining in on the hate dogpile about a picture Hasan posted of himself reading Lenin on a train, making fun of him and calling him a grifter larper.
I’m talking about people who hate Hasan for his takes on AOC or Platner, but simultaneously hold the belief that Tucker Carlson has done more to push the needle for the anti-Zionist cause than people like Hasan, or that MTG is not perfect but is more genuine than AOC. These are people who hate the Democratic Party and entryist politics and shit on Hasan endlessly for it, but now I see them rallying behind Maureen Galindo in her bid to win her Democratic primary because yesterday or the day before Hasan said he wouldn’t endorse her or have her on the show.
Again, if this was simply about genuine political disagreements or differences in methods, like it usually has been in the many years I’ve been a Hasanabi head, I wouldn’t make this post. But now it has turned into petty people celebrating each other and throwing up salute emojis for “doing their part” while bragging about how satisfying it feels to ragebait him because Hasan having an emotional outburst is proof to them that they were able to hurt his feelings and make him look crazy or unhinged to his audience.
There was one hate thread talking about how the suits he has started wearing prove that he is a Democratic Party stooge and people should stop watching him. One commenter said that he has turned into the Democratic Party’s Charlie Kirk. The OP of the hate thread responded that they wished Hasan was the left’s Charlie Kirk because that would mean he would’ve been assassinated by now. The original commenter replied and said, “Have patience,” since it’s inevitable with how gun-friendly America is and all the rallies he attends for Democrats, and that it’ll be very satisfying when it happens.
There was one person who chimed in and said they hate Hasan but that it was disturbing to talk about him this way. They were dogpiled by people saying Hasan deserves it because he’s a Zionist, a terrible human being, someone who raped people in a brothel, etc.
Mind you, this isn’t just one or two anonymous weirdos screaming into the void. These posts regularly get hundreds of likes, dozens of approving replies, and sometimes go viral outside of their online left spaces.
There’s also a Hasanabi account on Twitter called Adri that posts contextualized clips so people can engage with Hasan’s actual arguments instead of ragebait edits. Her replies and quote tweets are constantly flooded by obsessive anti-Hasan leftists, and sometimes the hate comments get more engagement than her original posts. Watching libs, conservatives, centrists, and parts of the left all unite to endlessly harass random fan accounts honestly feels bleak.
Maybe some of this engagement is botted. Maybe the algorithms are amplifying the most toxic people. I genuinely hope that’s the case. Because if not, there’s a growing section of online left politics that seems less interested in organizing, persuading, or building anything, and more interested in cultivating resentment-driven anti-fandom communities centered around one streamer.
And that’s just an incredibly sad and blackpilling.
