Now that MMFF 2026 has to compete with Dune: Part Three and Doomsday, what kind of MMFF entry do you want to see?

Here's my take:

  1. A romance with a genuinely fresh concept (e.g. Past Lives, The Lunchbox)

I want a romance that actually makes you feel something. Something intimate, sincere, and memorable, with a unique concept.

  2. A psychological horror (e.g. Hereditary, The Shining)

Less jump scares, more suspense and atmosphere. I'd love something that's more performance-driven, where the horror comes from the acting as much as the story.

  3. A Golden Age-style musical (e.g. The Sound of Music, Singin' in the Rain)

A big, colorful musical with great original songs, choreography, and classic Golden Age charm.

  4. A family drama (e.g. Sentimental Value)

Just a really well-written, emotional story about family. No need for over-the-top drama if the writing is strong. (Walang may sakit na character, or may mamamatay.)

  5. An arthouse film (e.g. Anatomy of a Fall)

Something bold and different that still has enough appeal for a wider audience.

  6. A dark satire / black comedy (e.g. The Menu, Triangle of Sadness)

I think there's so much in our society that could be turned into a smart, funny, and biting satire. The Vice–Vic tandem could pull this off, in my opinion.

  7. A mystery thriller (e.g. Prisoners)

    A well-written mystery could be a huge crowd-pleaser if it's done right.

  8. A historical epic (dir. Zig Dulay)

I'd love to see a big-budget Filipino period film with amazing production design, costumes, and cinematography.

Oscar vs. Grammy: What's your ultimate dream award?

Imagine you're guaranteed to win one of them. Would you rather be celebrated as a legendary actor/filmmaker or as a world-class musician?

What movie posters from the 2020s are your favorites so far?

Here’s my top 10 so far. I really like the Japanese poster for Sentimental Value, I could honestly look at it for hours. Also, this list wouldn’t feel complete without Yorgos posters of course.

What’s your favorite Yorgos Lanthimos film?

Mine’s probably The Favorite (2018). I’m amazed by the film’s storytelling and the acting from its cast. It also earned 10 Oscar nominations and one win for Best Actress. I’ve always liked how distinct Yorgos Lanthimos’ films look, even the posters have their own vibe.
