Won’t hit ideal weekly mileage or elevation for my first 50 miler - where should I focus to maximize odds of finishing?

I will not reach desired weekly mileage for training a 50 miler. Where should I focus energy for best odds of finishing?

Week 4 of 20 training for the Finlayson Arm 50 miler with 13000 ft elevation and 18 hour cut off.

Haven’t done a 50km or 50 miler before. Want to know thoughts on non optimal training to finish a race like this.

So far I am running 7 hours a week time on feet around 40% of the distance and elevation. Right now this already feels like it is pushing it and fatigue is building up. I have a hard time thinking I will get over 65% weekly mileage and elevation.

Can any back of packers share what their training looks like? Do you get full elevation and mileage weekly? I have a hard time thinking I’ll be running 18 hours per week. Or even 14 hours. Do back of pack runners really run ~100% vert and mileage in peak weeks on a race like this?

Any advice on where to focus energy to make the most of training?

I live near the course and do my long runs on it. I could do more terrain specific training but the elevation takes more to recover from.

I am focusing on my fuelling and recovery from each run so I can get the most gains week to week. Still learning, got a vest, trying food and drinks.

I am tempted to do a test run of 30 km or so on the course to test my fueling properly for race day but this test will mean less actually strength gain from training. Is that trade off worth it given this is my first ultra?

Given my very and mileage is lower than desired. Should I still fit in strength work and hill repeats even if that lowers mileage further?

Any advice welcome thanks
