Laminectomy
I had a Laminectomy yesterday to remove synovial cyst at L5S1. I am groggy still today from anesthesia but the majority of my pain is gone thank God. I had burning and electricity mainly down left leg in buttocks, back of thigh, back of calf, left side of foot and numbness on bottom of foot. This was like crawling over broken glass for seven months. I had to go through the protocol - pain management, PT, Physio etc. Not helpful in my case. I had a really good neurosurgeon think. One piece of advice I would give is look up doctor’s reputation and ask around. The whole thing was pretty frustrating and shook my confidence in the medical field. I was misdiagnosed with ‘vein problems’ first, I had one doctor tell me pain was in my head, another that I would get used to the pain, a neurologist saw the obvious smoking gun on my MRI and said that’s not what’s causing your pain. The advice I would give there is you have to be your own advocate when it comes to your health today. I had to argue and persist to get my MRI and to get to the right doctor. Thank God I did because I was getting to a very dark place. I wish you healing - sincerely…
