Painful strong spasm in chest when exercising
To preface this I’ve dealt with harmless heart flutters for years. I’m a 35 y/o M. Drink moderately a few days a week, smoke MJ daily, though not heavily. Workout 4-5 days a week.
Last fall I started having single, very strong spasms that seem to originate from the center of my abdomen around the heart area. at one point I was having 50-60/day so went to my dr who ordered lots of tests. Full panel blood work, ECG, and a nuclear stress test. All perfectly fine with symptoms suddenly stopping as the tests commenced. Had a cardiologist referral but with no symptoms any longer I cancelled it and just attributed it to anxiety and caffeine. reduced caffeine, reduced stress and symptoms were gone for months but have slowly been returning.
Seems to occur anytime my HR hits a high-moderate to vigorous zone. It may happen a couple times as my hr recovers while weightlifting. A strong spasming or squeezing sensation that somewhat hurts its so strong before not happening again the rest of the workout. When walking on a treadmill, my hr doesn’t get too high so nothing happens. however when i take my walk outdoors in the heat, humidity, etc and have to work a bit harder to keep my pace, my hr will get upwards of 148 bpm and I start getting these sudden alarming spasms in my abdomen again. like my heart is being seized for a split second before whatever it is stops for a bit then it may happen again multiple times until I get my hr back down to resting. sometimes happens at the peak of an inhale I’ve noticed.
anyone else experience this? the only thing I can think to do is take it easy on the cardio so it doesn’t happen and call my cardiologist back months later to see if I can get an appt set up again.
