About a year and a half ago we got new AC units and got Trane Inverter units that run on varialbe speeds (aka multi-stage).

Our house was built in 1987 with single speed units. While our electric bills haven’t gone down drastically, they have gone down.

I can’t overstate the improvement in comfort in our house. We have ceiling fans but hardly use them anymore. These units keep the air moving almost all the time and the comfort level in our house is 100% better.

Some AC people say that older homes are “not designed” for these units. I say they don’t know what they are talking about.
