Fired at 41

Hi guys

I'm actually about 18 months since my last day at work. Was an actuarial contractor for nearly 15 years, invested most of it into property in the early days and now fairly free.

Something like £2.5m in property, including my own home, with something like £1.3m in mortgages outstanding. Little bit of working cash, £100k in ISA and £150k in far away pensions. It's mostly buy to let, and I've been working on paying off the mortgage on a property every few years. I have 14 between flats and houses, 5 with no or minimal borrowing against them. By far the biggest loan is the mortgage on my own house - 500k.

It's not really something I can talk about with my friends and family, so I'm dumping it here. No real secret to how I did it all: actuarial contractors earn decent money. I was just about good enough at what I did to keep getting gigs around the country and it was a bit of a slog at times, but eyes on the prize, right?

On a throwaway because this isn't one I want to come back to me. No one likes it when I say I'm retired at 41. They like it even less if you say you're a landlord.

Peace

Edit - well I wasn't expecting so much interest on here. I don't really care so much about Chelsea or City so I'll try to go through and reply at least once. Main thing though... If you want to tell yourselves that I'm super busy managing my portfolio then be my guest. The reality is it's maybe a few emails a week and a few calls a month. Beyond that I employ someone to manage things day to day.
