Need advice: Manali to Shimla travel and Alternatives?

Hi everyone,
I’m currently in Manali and planning to travel to Shimla on 16th may 2026. The problem is that there seems to be only one bus option available on the internet , and it’s an older bus (krishna transport shimla), which makes me a bit hesitant about comfort and reliability especially on mountain roads.
Private cabs are available, but they’re really expensive, so I’m trying to avoid that unless absolutely necessary.
Has anyone recently done the Manali → Shimla route by regular bus?

A few questions:
Is the old HRTC/private bus generally safe and dependable?

How bad is the ride in terms of comfort, road condition, and travel time?

Any better budget alternatives (shared cabs, breaking the journey somewhere, etc.)?

Anything I should know or prepare for before taking that bus?

Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has done this recently. Thanks

Hi, planning a honeymoon trip and need practical/local suggestions.
Plan:

Reach Manali early morning on 13th (via overnight bus from Delhi)
Looking for hotels that allow early check-in

Day 1:
Rent bike
Hadimba Temple, Old Manali, Mall Road (evening)
Day 2:
Sissu via Atal Tunnel (planning cab)
What is ideal timing? Is same day return comfortable?
Also, is it safe to travel to sissu on a bike with patner, or the roads too extreme? I have riding experience of almost 12 years
Day 3:
Rohtang Pass (if open) or alternatives
Because pass and all
Questions:
Best area to stay for honeymoon (Old Manali vs Mall Road)?
Is bike safe for local sightseeing in May?
Should I skip Rohtang and explore somewhere better?
Any hidden romantic spots/cafes/experiences?
Goal: relaxed honeymoon, not rushed sightseeing.
