Im finishing a MS and its been a time. I have two advisors the first is difficult to work with at times but patient. The second advisors is more distant (literally) and knows less of my work.

Im apply to jobs and would like one of them to be a reference but im hesitant to ask because i get the feeling that they dont have the best opinion of me via my lack of abilities...the thesis has taken an extra semester + to finish because i can be slow with progress.

Any advise on how to best approach asking them to be a reference?
