Tips to maximize cabinets and counter space in a 120sq. ft. kitchen

The wife and I have several contractors coming in the next week for quotes on a new kitchen renovation (at minimum) or a remodel. We've considered about knocking down the load bearing wall between our living room and the kitchen. We could keep part of the wall and add a breakfast nook or open it up entirely, but with the layout of the house, it seems like this will not only lead to a minimum $20k project just for the wall, but a never ending spiral of things to change (flooring, painting, new furniture to fit, etc.).

If we rule out taking down the wall unless we find more compelling reasons to do so, the real question is on the best way to maximize the kitchen space (which is really 107"x159" or 8'11"x13'3" so ignore the cubicasa measurement in the last photo). We already know that we will be getting upper cabinets that go all the way to the ceiling for maximum space and minimum cleaning, but are there other things that we should consider with a remodel on a small kitchen with good ways to "hack" as much space as possible?
