New Player Questions?

Hello!

I'm just getting into the game and have some questions about the rules that I'm hoping a more experienced player can answer.

  1. In the rules for indirect weapons it says when you miss a target with an indirect weapon you "Roll 1D10 per grenade. Referencing the intended point of impact, the number shown indicates the half the distance in inches the grenade deviated from its target." So you roll a 1d10 and times the number by 2 to get the distance? Does that mean a grenade can scatter 20" across the board?!

  2. Why are shotguns so good? Am I missing something? Why would you ever take any other melee weapon when you can take a FP 3 dmg 2/3 melee weapon with a 12" range? They're also technically in the melee table so can they not be used or taken as "ranged" weapons? This leads me to my 3rd question...

  3. If a unit can only equip1 ranged and 1 melee weapon then how is a unit supposed to be equipped with two melee weapons for the "knife man" skill? Is ranged melee weapons are also ranged weapons that would answer this question but if they're only melee then knife man would work...either way can you not equip two melee only weapons to use the knife man skill?

Thanks in advance and apologies if I'm just missing something...

Are "slow" weapons worth the risk?

What do you think?

How would you minimize the risk of always fighting last and/or maximize their potential?
