TLDR. My concept for Akane Toriyasu prior to the release of Akane's actual backstory.

Comment about her actual backstory: Akane's backstory is actually okay. The only reason why it's so dumb and everyone's hating is because this has been EVERYONE'S backstory at this point. Personally, I hate it too.

So, my own take on Akane is this. Akane is a manipulator who knows how to read and toy with others without drawing attention to herself but she never does it for fun. (Yes, I took away her sadistic side, fight me.)

It is something that she naturally learnt to do as a result of being in an environment that made her suppress her emotions and therefore, she would never do it intentionally because she recognized how her environment shaped her to be like that and she doesn't want to hurt anyone with it because she knows of the danger her power actually has.

Akane has an inferiority complex. She thinks because she has this ability to toy with others, she is a monster and is inferior to everyone else. She constantly argues with herself and always argues with herself on whether or not she was genuine even if she was indeed genuine.

Akane's "mask" of being a ditzy airhead is not a mask. That is one of the many facets of herself. The one she had to suppress and later the one that she uses to her advantage when necessary. However, this also means that it is not a facade. In her ditzy airhead persona, if she says to the person that they are cool, that they deserve the best, whatever, that means that she genuinely thinks that is true. Even if she has to fight herself about that after the exchange.

She is overtly sweet so she can prove to herself that she could have a normal life without having to manipulate or manufacture it, yet her kindness felt fake and ingenuous. As a result, those rumors of her ditzy airhead self being a facade for something much darker became popular.

Megami did find her ability to manipulate without drawing attention to herself very useful but had misread her intentions and gave her student council. Akane feels like she is undeserving of this position and so dedicates her own heart into it so she can feel like she is.

And that's pretty much it. Anyways, I haven't actually thought much about this concept but I think you can get the idea. Well, thanks for looking at me talking about my take on Akane. Fuck Alex for making her a bitch and giving her the same copy-paste backstory.
