4 stripe blue belt returning after 10+ years. Restart at white belt?

Hey all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I’m a 4 stripe blue belt looking to get back into BJJ after about 10 years away. A lot of life changes have happened since then, and I now live far away from my original gym. I’m also in my late 30s, and honestly my main goal is just to get back into working out and have some fun. I don’t really have any major BJJ goals beyond that.

I’ve stayed a fan of the sport over the years, but I can tell a lot has changed. Even watching matches now, there are techniques and positions that I have a hard time following.

I’ll probably only be able to train once a week, so between the 10-year layoff, being out of shape, and how much the sport has changed, I’m thinking just showing up at a new gym as a white belt and not mentioning my old rank unless the instructors ask if I have some experience.

What do you all think?

Thank you in advance!

Cable TV to YouTube style editing transition?

Hey all, first time poster here. One of my friends and colleagues comes from the 2000’s-2010s era of Cable TV Reality Adjacent style of editing (think Discovery Channel or TLC). Our team does more YouTube videos and a lot of travel vlogs and I’ve been having a hard time getting him to get rid of cable style habits like music selection, sound effects, tone, flow.

He’s still an amazing storyline editor but the style is just feeling like cable on youtube. Have any of you ever ran into this before? If so, what are some things you’ve noticed helps communicate it? Most of the time I end up armchair editing which sucks for everyone.

Here’s what im doing right bow:
- giving him a list of sfx and music
- telling him to make the speaking waveforms as tight together as possible
- no stings to end scenes with soft b-roll
- intentional, not filler music

Super appreciate the help all!
