My mom got arrested and now I suddenly have to take care of my younger siblings. I don’t know what to do.

I’m the oldest sibling and I honestly don’t know what to do right now. I’ve always helped provide financially for my family because that’s kind of been my role growing up, but I’ve never had to handle something like this before.

My mom got pulled over today and apparently had 24 warrants, so they’re booking her downtown. I don’t really understand how any of this works or what’s going to happen next. This is my first time dealing with something this serious and my head is all over the place.

I have two younger siblings that depend on me, especially my youngest brother who is very sick and requires a lot of care daily. He has to take salines multiple times a day and needs enemas daily too, and my mom was usually the one managing all of that on a schedule. I’m terrified because I genuinely don’t know how I’m supposed to take over all of this overnight.

I was unemployed, but I recently got a job opportunity not too long ago. The problem is I don’t even know how I’m supposed to make that work now while taking care of my siblings full-time, especially my little brother with all his medical needs.

I’m currently staying with my boyfriend, and most likely my siblings and I will have to stay here for now. It’s basically just us because our dads are out of the picture. I do have some family nearby, but they all have their own lives and responsibilities.

I came on here because I genuinely need advice. Please, I’d really appreciate no backlash or criticism. I’m already overwhelmed and trying my best to figure this out. If anyone has gone through something similar or has advice on what steps I should take first, I would really appreciate it.

Also, to be transparent, the warrants are traffic-related violations that piled up over time because my mom neglected those financial responsibilities. I know people might judge that, but I’m just trying to be honest about the situation.

I also don’t understand how bail bonds, court, or any of this works, so if anyone has experience with this or has been in a similar situation, I’d really appreciate advice on what helped you get through it.

EDIT: Sorry for not mentioning this earlier, but I’m 22 years old. My siblings are 9 and 14, and I’m also supposed to be starting a new job soon.
