Grateful for Trying Times

Just wanted to share some appreciation for “Trying Time.”

I always thought it was a great song, but recently it has really hit me in a different way. My mom has been off dialysis for two weeks. She’s 81, and at this point we’re just trying to keep her comfortable.

I’ve always used music to connect to something when I need it. When my dad died, it was Sigur Rós. This time I tried Carrie & Lowell, but for whatever reason it wasn’t reaching me. Then “Trying Time” started calling to me. I put it on last night while driving home after sitting with my mom, and it finally touched the part of me I needed music to reach.

I’m a 42-year-old husband and father, and when you’re trying to be part of everyone else’s support system, it can be hard to let the walls come down. This song is helping me access that place so I can actually grieve and heal.

I know it’s a song about a romantic relationship, but there’s something about the haunting doo-wop sample, James’ voice, and the way the song just sits inside sadness without trying to fix it. It understands the moment.

This is probably a random post, and maybe it gets removed, but I just wanted to say thank you for a song that has been there for me when I really needed it.

Went as a waxahatchee fan and familiar with MJ just hasn’t invested time.

He played a song last night near the middle beginning that had a big guitar solo breakdown in the middle.

Any help is appreciated in finding it. I don’t know what posting flair means on Reddit so hopefully this stays up.
