Puppy sleep schedule
I have an 11 week old golden retriever puppy and live in an apartment . I am slightly concerned about his sleeping habits and schedules, which he just doesn't seem to have.
Outside of the fact that he always gets up at 6 am, he just has no consistency in when he wakes up and for how long he sleeps in the day. He always sleeps in his crate, and I have always let him sleep for however long he wants to, never waking him. When we wakes up, since we live on the 4th floor, I immediately physically pick him up and carry him down and put him down on the ground. We make sure he pees everytime and give him 10-15 minutes to poop if he needs to. We do some engagement and luring training, sometimes outdoors, sometimes indoors. He gets food, if it is meal time, and water and some playing with toys and ropes and then is brought down again to have another pee before we put him back in his crate again. Usually this entire cycle lasts about an hour to 80 minutes.
What I am worried about is that there is just know knowing when he'll wake up next. I really am struggling to understand when to feed him his meals. He often sleeps for over 4 hours at a stretch missing meal times, while other times he is up in as little as 90 minutes. Should I force him to wake up to get his meals? He sleeps through the night, 8 pm to 6 am, without having an accident, but this is not supposed to be normal, right?
Am I missing something, or do I just have a puppy with a poor circadian rhythm?
