Is HR still for me? [TX]

I recently relocated to Texas to work as an HR Generalist. I’ve been a HRG for 2 years and before that worked in Talent Acquisition so I’ve been in HR for going on a total of 5 years now.

Once I started my new job a month ago, it was a different culture than I’m used to. I haven’t really had a chance to talk or meet many people since HR sits on the floor away from other people. We had a bagel breakfast, a few retirement parties and today a donut breakfast since I’ve been here. My manager pulled me aside and said people mentioned to her that I’m standoffish and unapproachable.

I can say I’m not the most outgoing but I was definitely greeting people, saying good morning, as they came to grab a donut and answering questions they may have about where to certain things are. I made a few jokes with people but most people were there to grab food and leave so it wasn’t much time to strike up conversation.

I say this to say I’m not certain if HR is the field for me. I do my best to speak to people and build relationships but I guess it’s not enough??? I enjoy speaking with people and getting to know them and I felt like I was doing so. I just feel really discouraged after hearing that.
