Sub-X Finish Time or Ring the First-Timer Bell?
I’m currently training for my first Ironman and this question popped into my head. I’m curious what other people would do in this situation, especially those with more Ironman experience.
Let’s say you’re doing your first Ironman and you’re coming down the finishing chute. You realize you’re right on the edge of a goal time (sub-10, sub-11, sub-12, etc.), and stopping to ring the first-timer bell would likely cost you that milestone by a few seconds.
What would you do?
Would you:
Keep running and secure the sub-X finish time?
Take a few seconds to ring the bell and enjoy the first-Ironman experience?
Has anyone actually been in this situation? Looking back, would you make the same choice again?
Curious to hear your thoughts.
