Nets dream scenario:

1 egor makes huge leap

2 Traoure gets a shot at point to start season due to mikal ankle

3 wow. Traoure ALSO looks like he made a huge leap.

4 nets bring Mikal in at off guard and he looks great and comfortable with less responsibility

5 nets move egor to SF…easy transition due to new size and bulk

6 nets deal MPJ for a nice package

note: I def think Mikal has enough size and off ball skill/shooting to play off as well as run point.

I know. Completely ridiculous hypothetical but …If Cam T swore to management/Jordi that he’d now FULLY buy in on defense and moving the rock if only the Nets would offer him a 1 year prove it deal —would you give him a shot?

Only asking because he still has no home and likely finally woke up to reality.

Marks clearly has a “keep the powder dry” theory …but, personally, I just don’t know what imaginary move he’s hoping for...

Based on canvassing the league there are maybe 3 teams with top 25 players conceivably on the market if their team has a meltdown next year. 

1 Cavs (Mitchell or Mobley): mitchell is friends with mikal brown and a New Yorker but would getting him at age 31 and making crazy $$$ be better or worse if we landed Jaylen brown? Prob worse imo. And if nets go after Mobley is he really the guy worth going all in on? i dunno. 

2 Magic (Paolo or Wagner): Wagner is young and good but he’s a forward who isn’t a great shooter or rebounder. Is he really the difference maker we’ve been waiting for? As for Banchero, he’s kinda inefficient and makes ridiculous money. Not sure why we’d go all in. 

3 T-wolves (Ant-man): The only legit big prize young franchise player I imagine might be on the market. But to get him we’d almost CERTAINLY have to include either egor or brown and if that’s the case what are we really doing in terms of long term contention? Who else are we building with around Ant..? 

As for any other young franchise guys? I just don’t see any being available.

So what is Marks dream move? Open to ideas from Netland…

—there is a lot of smoke on Nets getting Watson via sign & trade. On one hand, I like Watson and don’t foresee us having to give up too much in a sign & trade to get him (maybe Mann, Clowney, and a 1st?) but aside the fact paying him 30 mill kinda worries m….

I personally would rather go hard after Murphy —-even if we have to overpay and deplete a much higher price on draft assets.

I'm curious if Netland has a preference or simply wants to stand pat and do neither.

It is almost strange to me how much Net trashing there is in the media.

Just thinking..

1. Nets have zero rim protection.
2. AD and Randal both have same contract length and options
3. AD makes more but since we didn’t utilize our cap we prob coulda taken on his cost.
4. Porter, egor, brown & clowney/wolf would provide huge spacing for AD in the paint.
5. if AD opts out …great.. ton of space… if he opts in… that’s fine too. Same as Randal

Yes, I know …I know…AD plays only 2/3 the season but —sharpe would be a great center behind him.

—too late now but was just thinking we’d be kinda scary with a healthy AD. If getting him cost us near as much assets as it cost to get Randal should we have done it?

bucks gotta get off turner 3 year remaining disaster contract. especially with ware on board. I hate turner but he would give us a rim protector and space the floor. would netland be willing to take turner into our remaining cap in exchange for a first acquired in the Giannis deal?

not a fan of brown but if his value is as reduced as rumors state it would make a ton of sense.

maybe something like:

Porter, Clowney, z will, Saraf/powell + 2 firsts for j brown

maybe that wouldn’t get it done but..

5. the Randal expiring will be easy to move
6. nets will have a ton of draft assets to get him more complimentary help

*edit: some people misconstrue my take on the acuff/cam t comp. I said the cam of “point guards”. obv, acuff is a better passer. But similar cam, I think acuff is gonna put up eye-popping numbers initially but ..again, similar to cam....his complete disregard for D and his surly demeanor are gonna wear on his team by the time he’s looking for his second contract. There are a lot of red flags on his personality and commitment to D. This is why I knew nets were out on him. And I’m glad they took Mikel as result.

Seems there is a lot of buzz about AJ possibly going to Jazz in a draft day deal. if so, I wouldn’t be surprised if jazz were interested in moving off Ace for a different kind of piece to put next to him.

that said. would netland be interested in an Ace for 6th pick if it was offered?

After listening to Kaplan and slater debate the worries on acuff and wagler I’m more certain than ever we gotta go mission impossible to get into top 4. …IMO

any one of AJ, Boozer, peterson or Wilson is what this franchise DESPERATELY needs.

yes, I know the odds of getting into the top 4 are super slim but we have enough assets to make someone consider a godfather offer. 3 firsts plus 6 pick to move up 2 lousy spots? four firsts? personally, I wouldn’t hate on it. sure the Mikal trade or Gobert trade got clowned across the league but as a net fan the slings and arrows of a blatant overpay might be worth it for a future hall of fame talent to build and give hope.

how far would you go to get into top 4?

FIVE roads:

1. go for Giannis or another star and sacrifice all our assets - too much a panic move IMO

2. somehow attempt to move up to top 4 - unrealistic

3. wallow in self pity and quit on nets - no thanx

4. take on more bad contracts for more picks - had enough of that, thanx

5. go hard after 2 of 3 of Reeves, Donsunmu, and Watson - blowing all cap space

I vote route 5 in a heartbeat.

if we can pry 2 of those 3 (even at a slight overpay) we walk into next summer with:

- 2 young starters (sacrificing nothing but cap)

- 1 young potential starter via our 6th pick

- still have allllll our future assets. (Hell, we can even consolidate some players for a veteran distressed asset.)
