3-layers of storytelling…
I think the thing I enjoy most of how the Dresden Files books are written is the multi-layered approach to plot developments. Nearly all of the books operate with 3-layers of storytelling at play:
- Episodic: the actual book you’re reading, the case, the chaos, the climax.
- Multi-book: how the decisions made during the episodic plot impact a portion of the story that unfolds over several books (Red Court, Winter, Denarians, etc.)
- Series: how that book develops Harry’s full story arch.
With this in mind, I’ve started exploring how each book fits within the universe based on these 3 layers.
I’ve done the first two so far and if you all like them I’ll keep going!
