Has anyone successfully appealed a GTT fine in Turin due to app/roaming issues?

I’m currently in Turin, and I am reaching out because I’m feeling incredibly stressed and disappointed after an interaction with a GTT inspector today.

My partner and I are law-abiding travelers. We’ve always made an effort to pay for our public transport. Today, being my partner's birthday, we wanted to make sure everything went smoothly. At 11:35 AM, while sitting in a city center café, we purchased our daily GTT tickets through their official app. We even have the Revolut payment receipts to prove it.

The trouble started when we boarded the bus. Although we had mobile data access, the GTT app was unresponsive and simply refused to load while using our mobile connection—it only functions properly when connected to Wi-Fi. This meant we couldn’t display the digital tickets we had just purchased.

Knowing we had already paid, I didn't want to break any rules or act like a fare dodger. As soon as we stepped onto the bus, I spotted the inspector. Instead of trying to hide or wait for a random check, I voluntarily approached him. I explained the situation calmly, showed him the receipt on my phone, and asked for help: "Could you please help me validate this? I have the ticket ID and the payment proof, is there any way to fix this?"

I thought, as a tourist in good faith, someone would understand. Instead, the inspector immediately took a hostile stance. He completely ignored the proof of payment I offered, didn't even look at the ticket serial number, and treated me as if I were a common criminal. He didn't just refuse to help; he forced us off the bus and proceeded to issue a fine for both of us.

When I tried to explain that we had paid and were only asking for assistance, the treatment became even more aggressive, which left my partner in tears in front of other passengers. It felt less like a public service check and more like a power trip.

I have already submitted a formal appeal via email with all the evidence: payment receipts, ticket IDs, and our history of purchasing tickets on previous days to show we are consistent, paying customers.

I have two questions for those familiar with GTT:

1 Has anyone successfully appealed a fine like this before, where the ticket was purchased before boarding but couldn't be shown due to app/technical issues?

2 Does the GTT administrative office actually review these cases with common sense, or is it a lost cause?

I am really hoping that the administrative office sees the
logic and the evidence of good faith. Right now, I just feel unwelcome and genuinely hurt by the way we were treated.

Any insights or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.
