Metformin

So i (48 F) was diagnosed almost a month ago. God only knows how long I was walking around with BS levels in high 300s...possibly 400s. My A1C was 11.1 my doctor said I had severe diabetes 😩 I am on metformin ER 500mg 2x a day. My levels are down to low 100s now fasting and under 180 2 hours after meals. My vision was so static and blurry once my BS started dropping but now its back 20/20.

Reflecting back I had so many uncommon or not talked about symptoms. My sister's are long time diabetes both in their 50s got diagnosed as teenagers. One of them was in a diabetes coma for a month. Sugar was like 900. It's a miracle she recovered. I always heard extreme thirst, hunger, urinitating a lot were the most common symptoms.

I never had any of those. I had fatigue after eating, ache feet and would just be tired and irritated because I was tired. I thought my vitamin d was low so I started taking vitamin d.

Last month I had a nasty spontaneous yeast infection...i mean just came full blown outta nowhere and urine should glucose and protein. I think so many are not educated on the signs and from my understanding mosy doctors wont check your A1C if you dont have any complaints. I think it should be apart of routine physical.

My doctor told me the last labs I had a few years ago my blood sugar was normal so she didnt bother checking my a1c but how are people supposed to know their sugar levels are high if you really dont have any symptoms? How are people supposed to know what to look out for if they aren't educated with this disease. The body is amazing how it adapts. I was fine till I wasn't.

I was so devastated with diagnosis at first but then I thought to myself it could be worse. My goal is to reverse or be in remission. But its hard navigating this along with lifes stresses. I feel stress is the biggest reason for diseases and conditions outside of genetics. A doctor once told me learning how to manage your stress is the key to keeping your body healthy. Easier said then done...

Thanks for reading my Ted talk lol I wish above all things that our health improves in our mind, body and soul. 🫶

Hi, I was just diagnosed a week ago. I am on 500mg of metformin extended release 1x a day then I double dose 2nd week then I follow up with doctor. What has been your experience with metformin? It has brought my sugar down but my vision is fuzzy and my doctor believes its more from "diabetes catching up" then metformin. I had 20/20 vision prior to diagnosis. A1C is 11.1

I feel so down because I did this to myself...not managing my stress level and not eating right. What did you do to improve your mental and physical health?

Thank you all for your encouragement and suggestions. I really appreciate it.
