Tips, Tricks, maybe reassurance?

Hi everybody. I'm 17M and I have approximately -6.00 in both eyes. (I say this because it's been a few months since I've been to the optomotrist and it was -5.00 back then and I've noticed I can barely see anymore.) I got my first glasses when I was about 10 and since then I've gone all the way down to this prescription. Lately, it feels like it has been getting quicker- needing new glasses at intervals of months instead of years. I'm worried that things are just going to keep getting worse for me. I already can't do anything without my glasses.

My optomotrist recommended the 20/20/20 rule last appointment and I've foolishly been too addicted to screens to follow it. Is that something that would genuinely help slow my degeneration? Do you guys have any other tips that could help me not go blind as quickly?

Side note, but I'd also like to get into contacts, since as you all know glasses are annoying as hell. Are contacts at higher prescriptions less effective than glasses, or is there any other caveat to them? Thanks in advance, everyone.
