I had received an admit from UCSD for MS in ECE. I hold a dual degree (EEE+Maths) from BITS. I had my visa interview in New Delhi today.

The visa officer asked me for 120 and then asked me is this your first masters degree ?

I replied no, I had a masters in mathematics from BITS Pilani and this is MS in ECE.

He viewed his screen in silence for a while and than handed me a 214b rejection. I want to know what I did wrong and if I re-apply, will slots be available before September when my session starts. I understand that he might have thought that why I am going for a second masters when I already have one. Also in my DS160 I had mentioned I have a relative in the US.

What changes can I make? My new DS160 will have the same details as I had put before. I don't plan to change the university.

Folks who got their F1 Visa rejected, are there refusal slots available in India? Or there is some 6month waiting which some people are discussing. I got my visa rejected yesterday under 214b. Had an admit from UCSD for MS in ECE where classes will start from sept 2026. Want to know if I will be able to find a slot before that.
