Welp… north fl, may… planted a month ago in april… wanted to cut my trees at knee height for easy fruit picking/lower scaffold but missed the window when they were dormant.

Said screw it based on info from last post and did about 50% height trim on both at around hip height.

on the peach I have 4 branches picked out/already devloped but all are at different heights? what do I do about the little leaf nodes in between branches on the trunk trying to sprout? are my cuts okay? This was nerve racking asf.

the nectarine theres two branchs that are green that I kept, also about a hip high cut cause I didnt wanna behead them at knee height with no limbs/leafs since im already cutting at the wrong time.

do i cut all the little leaf buds against the trunk where branches come from to stop them from developing? they are basically flush with the trunk.

please any advice or help, id pay an expert for a 5 min video call to show the trees and give advice lol

Finally found a Sugarbelle Mandarin, north fl area. Just planted it, it came in a very small long pot (shown in last pics). I tried to keep the young root flare 1-2inches above the ground.

is this too exposed/shallow? What do I do to the exposed roots? Should i dig it deeper?

look at those roots! (last pic)

I planted these two kumquats last year, north fl 9a.

After learning about root flare I realized its not showing and even digging a few inches around the base I saw no roots.

Should I remove all the dirt around the tree and the area so its at level grade to try and expose more of the trunk/find the root flair?

My finger is pointing at the graft line

I just planted a peach and nectarine tree on april 4th 2026, North FL 8b/9a zone. At the time of posting this it is May 1st.

Is it too late to do the initial knee high prune to establish the open vase shape?
I keep reading how right after you plant them you want to make your initial center leader prune to set the shape up for the future.

Should I wait until next spring as the new leaf buds break and just let it get established this year? They are 6-8ft tall with full leafs on them and from container pots.
