Stumped by browser issue

I have been using Asahi for well over 3 years now mostly problem and issue-free.
In the last 3 months have an issue with browsers clipping and otherwise not showing images (seems mostly jpg) except as garbled or partial - moving mouse often will show part of the image. Started with Chromium sometimes and then both Chromium and LibreWolf.
Got used to it, thinking it will get "automagic fix" in a later release of something central.
But I was curious about the browser Helium after reading about it and wondered, since it's theoretically similar to Chromium, would it have the same behavior?
Well, no. It displays all images correctly - from reddit thumbnails to Flickr and any site I might go to. Firefox works properly as well.

Weird enough?
Anyone have an inkling where I might look for an answer? Search returned a somewhat similar issue description that dated some years with dated links, else found nothing.
